Grassroots Organizer / Program Facilitator
🌟 Part-Time Role: Grassroots Organizer / Program Facilitator
Overview
Civic Suds is a nonprofit reimagining laundromats as trusted neighborhood spaces. Families already spend hours each week doing laundry; we use that time and place to equip laundromat guests with actionable information and valued skills. As a Grassroots Organizer / Program Facilitator, you’ll be the face of Civic Suds in laundromats across DC, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County. You’ll often be the only Civic Suds representative on-site, but you’ll be equipped with training, clear program goals, and weekly check-ins with your manager. Success is measured by outcomes—how effectively you engage families and document impact—so this is a great fit for someone who wants independence and ownership in their work.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate on-site programming in laundromats (literacy activities, community events, health outreach)
- Collect stories, data, and observations to monitor and share program impact
- Support nonprofit operations: communications, grant prep, fundraising support
- Identify challenges in the field and propose solutions to improve programming
Skills/Experience Gained
- Hands-on experience in grassroots organizing and community engagement
- Independent leadership—running programs with support and guidance but lots of day-to-day responsibility
- Exposure to nonprofit operations and impact evaluation
- Practice translating fieldwork into reports and fundraising materials
Working Conditions
10–16 hours/week, weekends only (5–8 hours each day). Because our programs happen when families are available, weekend work is essential. Most assignments will be independent, with weekly manager check-ins to provide guidance and troubleshoot challenges. This role is well-suited for someone balancing weekday commitments like classes or another job.

Compensation
$25/hour. Transportation is not covered. Laundromat locations may require a 30–60 minute drive with limited public transit access; a car is highly recommended, though not required. This is a competitive rate for direct community-facing nonprofit work with meaningful independence and leadership-level responsibility.
