Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and data-driven Continuous Improvement Engineering Intern to support our drive toward operational excellence in a dynamic contract manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for someone pursuing an engineering degree with a strong interest in Lean principles, process optimization, and cross-functional problem-solving. You will work closely with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to identify inefficiencies, design improvements, and help implement sustainable solutions that enhance flow, eliminate waste, and promote a culture of accountability and visual performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct value stream mapping and process mapping to identify waste, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
- Assist in designing and implementing balanced workflows and single-piece flow work cells to improve takt alignment, resource utilization, and operator efficiency.
- Support SIPOC analysis to clarify process boundaries, roles, and handoffs across departments.
- Participate in and help facilitate root cause and corrective action (RCCA) processes using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, and A3 problem-solving.
- Assist in planning and executing Kaizen events to drive improvements in flow, quality, lead time, and productivity.
- Help develop and implement mistake-proofing (poka-yoke) solutions to improve first-pass yield and prevent defects.
- Build and maintain visual management systems, including Gemba boards, visual standard work, and performance dashboards.
- Support the creation, documentation, and upkeep of standard work practices and visual instructions.
- Apply industrial engineering techniques such as time studies, line balancing, layout design, and ergonomic assessments under supervision.
- Track, report, and communicate performance improvements, cost savings, and project outcomes to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Pursuing or have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Lean tools such as value stream mapping, 5S, standard work, takt time, visual management, and mistake-proofing.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Effective communicator, able to engage with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with SIPOC, A3 problem-solving, or DMAIC is a plus.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification is preferred but not required.
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience applying Lean and industrial engineering principles in a real manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to cross-functional collaboration and leadership in process improvement initiatives.
- Practical knowledge in process mapping, workflow design, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Mentorship and professional development opportunities within the engineering and operations teams.
