paws4people® foundation trains puppies to prepare them for their future roles as life saving Assistance Dogs. One of the most important stages for our dogs is their puppy development.

Our internship opportunities at the Puppy Development Center in Wilmington, NC allow you to be a big part of transforming the lives of others through your help. The incredible opportunity to further develop credentials in the Animal Care Industry, Veterinary Field, Animal Science, and Service Dog Industry. Eligible for certificates based upon successful completion of program. Free housing accommodations (when applicable) and the opportunity to receive a meaningful educational experience in the care of puppies. The interns provide care for puppies from birth until ~22 weeks as well as our breeding dogs, when applicable. Duties include feeding, training, basic manners, bathroom breaks, puppy outings, basic care of breeding dogs, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment at the Center.

Interns will receive learning outcomes such as: 

• Gaining skills in time management through prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently.
• Leadership training and experience amongst a variety of settings and age groups. 
• Growing in verbal and written communication skills through training logs, reports, communication with supervisor as well as volunteers of the organization. 
• Knowledge of training styles and techniques to promote growth in puppies cues, confidence, and socialization skills.
