International Student Engagement - Kearney International Center

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in carrying out international student engagement programming and events of the KIC. The GA will work in coordination with and under the supervision of the Assistant Director of International Student Engagement. Activities the GA will focus on include:   

  • Academic Student Success initiatives, including outreach to international students struggling academically at key intervals throughout the term
  • Manage and create social media posts for international student engagement programming
  • Assist with program assessments and reporting at end of semester and academic year    
  • Attend weekly retention meetings, provide and contribute ideas during meetings     
  • Assist in planning and running signature nights and other KIC events including International Festival.  
  • Support the day-to-day operations and programming of the retention team at the KIC  
  • This position will require periodic work on evenings and weekends. 
  • Support for international student orientation programming
     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Admitted to or will be admitted to Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate degree program by June 1, 2026 
  • Experience working with diverse and/or international student populations at university level 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Experience in creating social media content. Comfortable with Adobe Express, Instagram, Hootsuite.
  • Technical ability with the use of personal computers and software including Office 365 and other willing to learn other student success platforms.
  • Punctual and professional demeanor with respect for confidentiality and privacy.  
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by June 1, 2026. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in peer-to-peer mentoring or academic support such as tutoring, advising, etc. 
  • Must be adaptable to the changing demands of working with international students. 
  • Proactive individual ready to engage international students with creative programming. 
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to build rapport and create relationships of trust with diverse team members and students.  
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills.  
  • Familiarity with MSU, Mankato policies/procedures, as well as international student university experience.  
  • U.S. driver’s license
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
