Fashion Design Intern

About MARO

MARO is a natural fiber apparel brand. We make organic cotton toe socks, shorts, boxers, and sweatpants — clothing designed to work with your body, not against it. We're growing fast and expanding our product line.

The Role

We're looking for a fashion design intern to support product development across our expanding line. This is a hands-on role working directly with the founder on everything from initial design concepts to production-ready tech packs. You'll be involved in the full product development process — from sketching and spec'ing to helping communicate with factories.

This starts as a part-time internship (~10–15 hours/week) with the potential to evolve into limited hours during the school year and full-time after graduation for the right person.

What you'd do

  • Create and maintain tech packs for new product styles (flats, construction details, measurements, materials, trims)
  • Develop design concepts and sketches for new products based on creative direction from the founder
  • Research fabrics, trims, and construction techniques — with a focus on natural fibers (organic cotton, merino wool, natural rubber)
  • Assist with fit reviews and sample feedback, documenting revisions clearly for factory communication
  • Organize and maintain product development files, keeping specs, BOMs, and sample notes up to date
  • Help prepare colorways and seasonal assortments
  • Communicate technical details clearly with overseas manufacturers

What we're looking for

  • Currently studying in a fashion design, apparel design, or textile program
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator for creating flats and tech packs — this is essential
  • Understanding of garment construction, grading, and spec sheets
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented — factories build what's on the tech pack, so accuracy matters
  • Comfortable working with measurements, tolerances, and bill of materials
  • Interest in natural fibers, sustainability, or the intersection of performance and natural materials
  • Self-directed and communicative — this is a remote role and you'll need to flag questions and keep work moving without constant oversight

Nice to have

  • Experience with CLO 3D or similar pattern/design software
  • Any prior experience working with manufacturers or reviewing garment samples

Details

  • Remote, flexible work hours
  • Potential path to full-time for the right person
