Graduate Assistant - Health Education

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Graduate Assistant for Student Health Services/Health Education will support prevention, outreach, and educational initiatives related to the Comprehensive Substance Misuse and Suicide Prevention Coalition grant through the Minnesota Department of Health. Funding for this position is expected to continue through June 2028.

This graduate assistantship provides hands-on experience in health education, prevention programming, and student wellness initiatives within the university setting. The Graduate Assistant will assist with the planning, implementation, and promotion of campus-wide programs focused on student wellness, mental health, suicide prevention, and substance misuse prevention.

The Graduate Assistant will collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, and community partners to develop engaging educational opportunities, outreach efforts, and prevention campaigns that support healthy behaviors, student well-being, and academic success.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated experience in the planning and coordination of educational events, activities, and programs.
  • Ability to work with, meet with, and motivate a diverse group of undergraduate student volunteers.
  • Flexibility to work at outreach events, including a limited number of evenings and weekends.
  • A demonstrated ability to create program marketing and educational materials using desktop publishing, such as Canva or Publisher.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Health Education office.
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Health Education/Promotion background.
  • Attention to detail, professionalism, and dependability.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
