RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 
The Teaching Assistant for Film Studies assists English Department film faculty in the implementation of pedagogical improvements in several 100- and 200-level film classes (such as Introduction to Film, Film Genres, and Introduction to Film Production), as well as other Film courses as appropriate, and supports additional curricular innovations that will permit an expanded emphasis on film studies and film production in the department, including support of the Film and Media Studies major. A primary duty involves oversight of the film production equipment room and film equipment check-outs to undergraduate students. 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Admission to a graduate degree program in English at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in English, Film, or related field.
  • Preparation to support a film production class, such as prior experience with film or video production in professional, academic, or semi-professional setting.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Experience with film equipment/media production.
  • Strong interest in film production and film studies.
  • Interest in integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for tuition waiver. 
 
RELATED INFORMATION: 
Contingent on satisfactory performance as a graduate assistant, satisfactory academic progress, and available funding, there is a possibility that this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment. The English Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato includes master’s level programs in Creative Writing (MFA), English Education, English Studies, Technical Communication, and TESoL, and undergraduate programs in the same fields, as well as a BA in Film & Media Studies and minors in film studies and linguistics. The department is also responsible for the university’s large composition program and offers general education courses in literature, film, writing, popular culture, and humanities.
