Library and Learning Communications Assistant - Library and Learning

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 
Responsible for implementing communication strategies for the dean by creating high quality communications, including regular digital messaging, social media, presentations, and press releases to support Library & Learning initiatives. 
 
The position reports to the Dean having significant interaction with functional leaders, program directors/coordinators, and others responsible for communications in our individual programs and departments. 
 
Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain internal and external messages and systems that are built upon a strong understanding of Library & Learning mission and vision, equity-minded educational opportunities, and the Dean’s leadership style.
2. Develop materials, such as slide decks or talking points, to prepare for events and meetings, and other internal communications.
3. Create an online visibility plan for Library & Learning that includes social media and integrates with university online visibility.
4. Assist with planning and promoting Library & Learning activities.
5. Attend Library and Learning Leadership Team Meetings, and others as required.
6. Coordinate with the university communications team and others about media relations.
7. Assist with producing and reviewing annual reports, highlighting significant data, and monitoring the annual review process.
8. Conduct necessary research to support communications projects.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or Marketing, and eligibility for admission into an MSU graduate program.
  • Analytical, organizational, and writing skills generally obtained through completion of Bachelor's degree in the humanities, or a strong emphasis of courses in the humanities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 
 
SALARY/STIPEND: $10,000 (20 hours/week) plus tuition stipend (up to 9 credits per semester). Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
 
RELATED INFORMATION: 
Contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funds, there is a possibility that this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment. 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
