Graduate Assistant-Academic Advisor - CSET Advising Center

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 
The successful candidate will be a critical member of the CSET Advising Team and will focus largely on supporting our international students, students of color and other underrepresented students. Responsibilities include: general education advising; advising and supporting students who are experiencing academic difficulty; participating in existing student success initiatives and developing new initiatives; assisting with orientation; assisting with admissions events; other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Preference is given to applicants pursuing degrees in Counseling & Student Personnel, Educational Leadership or other related graduate programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of international student issues and cultural transitions.
  • Understanding of the issues faced by underrepresented students.
  • Excellent problem- solving, organization and coordinating skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Previous experience working with undergraduate students in STEM fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 
 
SALARY/STIPEND: $10,000 stipend (20 hours per week) plus tuition waiver (up to 9 credits/semester), dependent upon availability of funds. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 
 
RELATED INFORMATION: 
Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
