Graduate Assistant - Learning Community Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 
Observe, supervise, coach, and mentor undergraduate student peer mentor student staff (LCC’s). Manage a team of approximately 10 Peer Mentors with up to 240 undergraduate students involved in their communities. Facilitate weekly individual and team meetings, collaborate on event planning and gather and develop resources to promote academic success of students. Assist in selection and training of the staff, assist with planning, marketing, and administration of programs for Learning Community students. Coach student leaders on communication with students enrolled. Assist with the collection of attendance data to support engagement in the program means success. Assist with strategies to improve the program based on this. Maintain consistent communication with the peer mentors. Also maintain consistent communication with the Director about the peer mentors and students. Assist Director with administrative tasks as needed.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Admitted to the College of Graduate Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills & attention to detail.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Understanding of undergraduate student issues (academic, transitional).
  • Experience with student, community, volunteer or nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with learning communities/special interest housing and/or with college students and have an interest in college student development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 
 
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 
 
RELATED INFORMATION: 
Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
