The Graduate Assistant Simulation Technologist will provide technical and mechanical support for the Maverick Family Nursing Simulation Center. Becoming trained in industry standards and established best practice as a part of the position, this individual will become responsible for helping to maintain and sustain the audiovisual equipment, inventory, support, maintenance and setup, computer software support, as well as the care of the manikins and other equipment used in the simulation program. Reports to the Academic Simulation Coordinator. Will work in collaboration with the Workforce Simulation Coordinator, Technology Director for the College of Allied Health & Nursing, Simulation Special Projects Manager, and other Simulation Center technical staff as well as faculty who teach using simulation.

  • Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours within a 20-hour per week schedule (non-remote).
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 
  • Background in Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Health Informatics, Health Science, Technical Communication, Business or related discipline.
  • Experience in healthcare simulation including maintenance, repair, and technical support of simulation equipment and/or medical device systems in an educational or healthcare delivery setting.
  • Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field such as EMT, paramedic, or other allied health profession certification and training, or healthcare technology, communication, or business.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 

SALARY/STIPEND:  $10,000 plus tuition waiver, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. Potential for summer graduate assistantship with $5,000 stipend, dependent upon availability of funds, academic standing, and successful completion of supervisor performance review. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
Work schedule: Monday-Friday. Schedule varies and may be scheduled between the hours of 6am-8pm. Occasional (or regular) evening or weekend shifts may be required.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
