Graduate Teaching Assistant - Mathematics & Statistics Department

POSITION START DATE:  August 15, 2023 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 
A graduate teaching assistant will teach College Algebra, Elementary Statistics, Trigonometry, or Precalculus as an instructor of record or assist faculty with teaching related, lab classes and development activities. The graduate assistant will be supervised by a faculty member. Graduate assistants may be required to perform non-teaching departmental service assignments. 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Admitted to a master's program in the department of Mathematics and Statistics at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship and in good academic standing.
  • At least two courses per semester need to be in Mathematics or Statistics (excluding thesis/APP or any type of independent study course).
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Previous teaching, tutoring and/or development experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
 
SALARY/STIPEND: Full-time assistantship (20 hours per week) with $5000 stipend per semester, plus up to 9 credit hours tuition waiver per semester. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for tuition waiver.
