RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
Graduate Assistant academic advisors in the College of Business Student Center are involved in a range of activities geared toward recruitment, student success and retention. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide advising to all undergraduate students, including students from underrepresented populations;
• Assist with orientation and registration process;
• Review academic records to determine progress toward admission to majors and progress toward degree;
• Support students in transition and/or who may be experiencing academic difficulty;
• Develop and participate in programs geared toward student success;
• Maintain accurate records;
• Learn, understand and ability to explain academic policies;
• Participate in admissions recruitment events;
• Assist in planning and/or implementation of student related college-sponsored programs;
• Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic technology skills.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of the COB Advising Team.
- Ability to effectively present information to groups of students.
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preference will be given to students in the first year of their graduate program.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 stipend (20 hours per week) plus tuition stipend of up to 9 credits per semester. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
RELATED INFORMATION:
Contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funds, this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment.
Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
