RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
Graduate Assistant academic advisors in Allied Health Advising are involved in a range of activities geared toward recruitment, student success, and retention. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide advising to undergraduate students, including students from underrepresented populations, through individual and group advising sessions.
• Assist with orientation and registration process.
• Review academic records to determine progress toward admission to majors and progress toward degree.
• Support students in transition and/or who may be experiencing academic difficulty.
• Develop and participate in programs geared toward student success.
• Maintain accurate records.
• Learn, understand, and ability to explain academic policies.
• Participate in admissions recruitment events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree conferred by start date.
- Admitted to Minnesota State University graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits per semester during assistantship.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively present information to groups of students.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of the Allied Health Advising Team.
- Basic technology skills and ability to learn new software applications.
- Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours.
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of a program within the College of Allied Health and Nursing.
- Enrollment in a graduate program within the College of Allied Health and Nursing or College of Education.
- Experience in student services and/or program planning and management.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 for the academic year (up to 20 hours per week) plus tuition stipend of up to 9 credits per semester. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
RELATED INFORMATION:
Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
