Pre-Nursing Advisor - School of Nursing (University Advising)

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 
The successful candidate will be a critical member of the School of Nursing Advising Team and will be involved in executing ongoing initiatives to support student success and retention. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing academic advising services to pre- nursing students, meeting with prospective students and families, reviewing application materials for program admission, assisting with orientation and registration processes, supporting students experiencing academic difficulty, assisting with electronic communications and record keeping, managing the application data entry process, assisting with planning and/or implementation of nursing advising-sponsored programs and performing other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Baccalaureate degree.
  • Admitted to Minnesota State University graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits per semester during assistantship.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of students.
  • Professional, dependable, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the School of Nursing Advising Team.
  • Basic technology skills.
  • Flexibility to work some evening hours.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Preference given to students entering their first year of a graduate program.
  • Graduate program within the College of Allied Health & Nursing or College of Education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • Experience in student services and/or program planning and management.

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. 
 
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 stipend (20 hours per week) plus tuition stipend of up to 9 credits per semester, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 
 
RELATED INFORMATION: 
Contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funds, this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment.

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
