RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Attend on-campus courses, typically 1 day per week.
- Check in with faculty throughout the week updating them on status of work, questions, or concerns.
- Evaluate student assignments and provide meaningful feedback according to the rubrics provided by the instructor.
- Proof any new material that is posted in D2L announcements, emails etc. to ensure what is shared with students is clear and error free.
- Proofread course materials and student assignments and be able to edit or offer feedback professionally using business writing standards.
- Notify faculty and/or staff of errors or problems with events or D2L information regarding the course.
- Help to gather student feedback on course material and recommend any changes to the instructor for the betterment of course.
- Help maintain records on student progress/grades in D2L Brightspace.
- Be available to answer any student questions related to the course topic and be willing to visit with the faculty if you are unsure of the response.
- Correspond with students via email, or after in person classes, as needed regarding student questions.
- Assist with coordination and set-up of course events throughout the semester.
- Prepare gifts and communications for industry partners that help with course events.
- Be flexible and willing to learn and do to address course needs as they arise.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree in management, international business, accounting, marketing, finance, business administration, English, education, or a closely related discipline.
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent writer and proofreader.
- Passionate about working with and helping students.
- Experience with D2L Brightspace.
- Ability to professionally communicate, address student questions, and assist them in understanding assignment questions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively.
- Willingness and ability to learn, multi-task, and adapt to what is needed at that time with a positive attitude.
- Organized and outstanding time manager.
- Patient with others, attentive to details, and service oriented.
- Ability to read and follow a rubric to ensure fairness and consistency in grading.
- Critical thinking: Ability to assess and suggest alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Able to monitor and assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or situations and communicate concerns immediately with the faculty to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Knowledge of campus and university services.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
RELATED INFORMATION:
The Graduate Assistant assists the faculty with the BUS 295 course and the nearly 300 students each semester. BUS 295 Professional Preparation for Business Careers Course Description: This course is required for admission to the College of Business for all business majors. The purpose of the course is to provide students with an overview of College of Business majors, allow students to create an academic plan for graduation, and develop professional skills needed for future job placement. Topics include cover letter and resume writing, interviewing skills, the process of networking, the internship program, etiquette skills, and requirements for graduation.
