Public Access/Engagement Graduate Student - Library Services

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The graduate student hired for this position will assist in performing the following function as part of the Public Access Team to ensure equitable access to services, materials, and spaces:

1. Assist with open and close circulation desk and Main Library as needed.
2. Assist with supervision and overseeing student assistants assigned to Access Services.
3. Assist with communicating with users regarding circulation, space, and building policies
4. Assist users in locating materials as necessary.
5. Assist with community outreach and student engagement as needed.
6. Assist with conducting assessment of access services, engagement activities, and library spaces.
7. Assist with communicating library services and resources undergraduate and graduate students.

The graduate student will need to work a flexible schedule, including closing the library on certain nights. The library closes at midnight.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and access to library services and resources.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering quality customer services or engaging with diverse populations.
  • Must be willing to work evening hours and be flexible within a 20-hour per week schedule (non-remote).
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated experience working in a library setting.
  • Attention to detail, professionalism, and dependability.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising student workers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $5,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Position available for Spring 2024 with the possibility of extending beyond the semester. 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
