Graduate Advisor-RSOs and Leadership - Student Activities

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Overall responsibility: The Graduate Advisor for Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and Leadership provides direct leadership and support to RSOs, leadership programming, and Student Activities. This role works closely with the Assistant Director and Maverick Involvement Team to provide programming and support for RSOs and student leadership development across campus. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Enrollment in a graduate program at Minnesota State University, Mankato
  • Prior program planning, development, and implementation experience
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Attention to detail, dependability, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as team member.
  • Experience leading or working with student organizations or other college programs.
  • Experience in event management and/or facilitating trainings.
  • Ability to learn and retain a wide range of institutional information.
  • Comfortable working with MS Word, Excel, Teams, webpage development (Episerver) and related software applications.
  • Embrace the vision, mission, and core values of Student Activities.
  • Enrollment in the College Student Affairs or Educational Leadership program (or a closely related program).
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.


SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Percentage of Responsibilities

75% Advising and Program Development
• Advise the Maverick Involvement Team, including weekly 1-on-1 and team meetings, onboarding, on-going training, feedback, and evaluation
• Provide advising and support to the University’s 200+ RSOs, their executive members, and advisors regarding university policies and procedures, resources available to RSOs, effective programming, best practices for leading RSOs, and other inquiries
• Coordinate the process for annual RSO Recognition and manage the Maverick Involvement Team in the processing of RSO resource requests
• Assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of recognized student organization officer/advisor trainings, involvement fairs, and other RSO-related programs
• Work collaboratively with Assistant Director and Maverick Involvement Team to create an array of leadership development programs open to all MSU, Mankato students
• Develop and redesign projects/programs according to post-project analysis. Document changes for future use by the office
• Identify and develop key institutional partnerships for cooperative programming

 

10% Evaluation and Assessment
• Post-project, meet with the Assistant Director to evaluate performance, give inter-department feedback, and document discussions
• Develop assessment tools to evaluate participant experience
• Through exit surveys, interviews, and personal participation, analyze indicators like attendance, participation, and impact of leadership programming and activities
• Maintain documentation regarding surveys, feedback, and from other sources to act as a reference for future programming and project development

10% Marketing
• Ensure an effective marketing strategy for RSOs and Leadership including but not limited to website development, press releases, poster design, and social media presence

5% Office & Administrative Tasks
• Meet weekly with Assistant Director and Student Activities leadership.
• Serve as a community administrator for Mav Central (Student Organization management software)
• Implement and supervise all activities as assigned
• Represent Student Activities in presentations, open house fairs, and similar events
 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
