Sociology Graduate Assistantship - Department of Sociology

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Graduate assistants are assigned to department faculty to primarily assist in teaching
responsibilities. These tasks include but are not limited to evaluating undergraduate student papers, proctoring exams, tutoring students, managing instructional technology, and similar tasks related to undergraduate student learning. Some graduate assistants may be assigned to help facilitate administrative tasks related to responsibilities of the Department Chair or the Graduate Program Coordinator.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Admission to Department of Sociology graduate programs.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship.
  • In good academic standing.
  • Available to work with department faculty during weekday business hours.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Background knowledge of sociology, non-profit leadership, aging studies, and/or applied leadership.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with D2L and other technologies for facilitating learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: $3,750 stipend and 7.5 credit tuition waiver for spring semester, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
