Maverick Success Program Advisor - Center for Academic Success

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Graduate assistant will provide support to students admitted to the Maverick Success Program, a contract admissions program. Responsibilities include academic advising, monitoring of student progress, preparing instructional materials, maintaining accurate records, conducting academic success skills workshops, offering referrals to campus support services, and performing other duties as assigned. This position may also co-teach a section of First Year Experience for Maverick Success students and/or create and maintain social media content for the CAS. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree conferred by start date.
  • Ability to be supportive of students’ transition to college and students who may be experiencing academic difficulty. 
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of the Center for Academic Success.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; maintaining accurate records.
  • Attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic technology skills and ability to learn new software applications, including MavConnect.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits per semester during assistantship; must maintain 3.0 GPA.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Preference will be given to those enrolled in a first-year graduate program in Counseling & Student Personnel, Psychology, Sport & Performance Psychology, Education, or Human Services.
  • Knowledge of academic skills best practices.
  • Experience working with academically at-risk students.
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipend of up to 9 credits per semester. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

• This assistantship will be up to 20 hours per week with various duties involving students considered academically at-risk.  
• Contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding, this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment.  
• The initial appointment will be made from the pool of applicants available at the deadline specified above.
 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
