Graduate Assistant for Large Music Ensembles - Performing Arts

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

* Assist ensemble directors with the operation, organization, management, assessment and/or direction of the Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and The Maverick Machine.  

* Assist in organizing and coordinating the Fall Choral Festival, Honor Band, and other events as needed.  

* Assist department with administrative needs with relation to department instruments, instrument lockers, and locker keys.

* Work an average of 20 hours per week for the duration of the assistantship. Coordinate, manage, and balance specific tasks each week depending on areas of need. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Bachelor's degree in Music or related field, minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
  • The candidate must be admitted into the Master of Music or the Master of Arts in Teaching by start date.
  • Strong English language speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and other Teaching Assistants.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
  • Granting of the individual award is contingent upon the quality of applicants. Appointment is for one year with application for a second year possible.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: $5,000 to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
