Graduate Assistant: Social Media and Event Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Manage Learning Community social media platforms and develop social media strategy. Create content to engage students and campus departments. Coordinate and pilot social media and marketing efforts. Organize, maintain, and develop all marketing materials for the Learning Community Program. Lead planning and creation of large-scale monthly events for 100+ students. Collaborate with other Graduate Assistants and Peer Mentors to execute monthly event. Coordinate monthly event location, theme, and all other relevant details. Observe, supervise, coach, and mentor undergraduate student peer mentor student staff (LCC’s). Manage a team of approximately 4 Peer Mentors with up to 100 undergraduate students involved in their communities. Facilitate weekly individual and team meetings with other Graduate Assistants, as well as gather and develop resources to promote academic success of students. Assist in selection and training of the staff. Coach student leaders on communication with students. Assist with the collection of attendance data to support engagement in the program means success and implement strategies to improve the program based on this. Also maintain consistent communication with the Director about the peer mentors and students. Assist Director with administrative tasks as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Admitted to the College of Graduate Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Previous social media management experience or strong interest in social media strategy and content creation.
  • Previous event planning experience or strong interest in event planning.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills & attention to detail.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Understanding of undergraduate student issues (academic, transitional).
  • Experience with student, community, volunteer or nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with learning communities/special interest housing and/or with college students and have an interest in college student development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION: 

Evening and weekend work are required at times for this position.

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
