Graduate Assistant - Career Advisor

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The position involves providing comprehensive career guidance to students and recent alumni through one-on-one appointments covering resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile reviews, job and internship searches, interview preparation, career assessments, and graduate school planning. Additionally, facilitating QuickStop drop-in sessions, participating in weekly case consultations and training, and delivering presentations on various career topics to student groups are key responsibilities. Assisting with career events, office operations, special projects, and attending professional development activities are also integral parts of the role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic technology skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively with the various publics with which the CDC regularly interacts (employers, faculty, students, etc.)
  • Should be a self-starter who can work well independently and as an enthusiastic member of the CDC team.
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of students.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Counseling and Student Personnel, Education, or another related field.
  • High interest in and commitment to the field of higher education, student affairs, and career development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 stipend (20 hours per week) plus tuition stipends (up to 9 credits/semester), dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for tuition waiver.
