Graduate Teaching Assistant: Biological Sciences

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The teaching assistant's duties will include:
- Teaching lower division biology laboratory sections
- Setting up instructional laboratories
- Assignment and examination grading and record keeping
- Other related duties assigned by the department or course instructor of record

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate Biology courses.
  • Qualifying English language test scores (if applicable).
  • Strong undergraduate background in Biology/Environmental Sciences.
  • Maintenance of at least 3.0 GPA in graduate classes.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively.
  • Biology/Environmental Science, or related major.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: $5,000/semester and 9 credit waiver per semester. Teaching assistantship appointments will be offered on a semester to semester basis based on department teaching needs.  

RELATED INFORMATION: 

The assignment is on a competitive basis contingent upon academic background, department need, and available funds. There is a good possibility that the assistantship may be mutually extended beyond the initial period of employment. 

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
