RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Archives and Special Collections Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting the Archivist and Archives Team in the implementation of archival and library practices associated with the University Archives, Southern Minnesota Historical Center and the Marilyn J. Lass Center for Minnesota Studies in the Memorial Library at Minnesota State University, Mankato.  The graduate assistant will develop finding aids and other descriptive tools to improve access to collections; process archival collections; provide research assistance; work on digitization projects utilizing the archive’s digital content management system; and other tasks as assigned.    

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong detail-oriented, organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Good computer knowledge and skills.
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Undergraduate or current graduate work in any of the following fields preferred:  History or related fields.
  • No experience necessary but Library or Archives experience is helpful.
  • Experience with historical research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: $10,000 stipend (20 hours per week) plus tuition waiver (up to 9 credits/semester).  Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
