RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
The graduate assistant will supervise, coach, and mentor undergraduate student peer mentor student staff (LCC’s) to assist with student success and retention. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Manage and maintain consistent communication with a team of approximately 8 Peer Mentors with up to 200 undergraduate students involved in their communities.
• Coaching student leaders on how to deal with difficult conversations with students in their communities.
• Gather and develop resources to promote students' academic success.
• Facilitate weekly individual and team meetings.
• Collaborate on event planning.
• Assist in selecting and training the staff
• Assist with planning, marketing, and administration of programs for Learning Community students.
• Maintain accurate records and assist with the collection of attendance data to support engagement in the program.
• Assist with strategies to improve the program.
• Maintain consistent communication with the Director about the peer mentors and students.
• Assist Director with administrative tasks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills & attention to detail.
- Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Canva and ability to learn new software applications.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
- Ability to work some evening and weekend hours within 20 hour per week schedule.
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of undergraduate student issues (academic, transitional).
- Experience with student, community, volunteer or nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrated experience working with learning communities/special interest housing and/or with college students and have an interest in college student development.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
RELATED INFORMATION:
Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
