RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
A part of the Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program’s strategic plan is to regularly assess our teacher preparation program to measure racial climate, sense of belonging, efficacy of our equity-based practices, and retention of teacher candidates in our program and after they enter the field of education. Furthermore, we are working to improve communication to prospective and current students to help advertise opportunities, supports, and processes at MNSU-Mankato so students receive all critical information needed to make decisions and navigate the graduate student experience. To help achieve these goals the MAT Program Assistant's role includes:
Developing marketing materials that reflect our recently renovated MAT Initial Licensure Program.
Adding information and forms as needed to the program’s dedicated D2L course so students can easily access information essential for licensure, learning opportunities, and graduation.
Collecting feedback/data from recent graduates (within the last 5 years) from our MAT program to better understand their experiences as a student at MNSU-Mankato, dispositions as a current practicing teacher, recommendations they have for improving the program, and where they are currently employed.
Collect feedback/data from current students who are toward the end of the previously existing MAT program to better understand their experiences as a student at MNSU, their dispositions as a future teacher, and recommendations they have for improving the program.
Assist the MAT coordinator in providing program information to prospective students.
Assist the MAT coordinator in tracking and updating teacher candidates progress in the program by identifying students who have not registered for upcoming courses or returned to coursework between semesters.
Cross-check program database of students with graduate studies office of students enrolled in the MAT program to ensure our program database is accurate and students’ listed advisors are active faculty members (in the even there has been a retirement or other reasons for faculty/advisor turnover) to ensure all students are receiving communication and support throughout their educational experience.
Assist in communication to teacher candidates to help provide guidance on how to obtain student IDs when residence outside of the Mankato region, acquire name badges for school sites, and enroll in professional education.
Assist in communication to teacher candidates if a background check and/or professional liability insurance is needed prior to upcoming field experiences.
After the first semester that the revised MAT program begins, collect feedback/data from the new cohort of students to better understand their experiences at MNSU, their dispositions as a future teacher, and recommendations they have for improving the program.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience with: developing surveys; collecting feedback and data; Microsoft Excel.
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated commitment to antiracism, equity, and diversity.
- Experience developing marketing materials and using tools such as Canva
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.
RELATED INFORMATION:
Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
